2022 Zyxel stupidest mistakes they should fix in 2023
Port forward 80 says it all your routers had no problem before and now do please fix it. I have seen people return your router because of this problem that was never a problem in the first place.
WAN Failover with connectivity check
NSG devices have an option where WAN Failover is checking WAN up status.
USG FLEX devices don't have this option i the NCC.
If you have ISP on WAN1 and a mobile on WAN2, it will only jump to WAN2 if WAN1 is disconnected. But ISPs love to have their own devices as media conveters and more, then we have possibility that conenction will often be active, with the internet not working. Here the other solution from NSG with checking would be much appreciated.
Re: Anti-Malware False-positive or Real?
I agree,
I had to completely disable the CDR function because of all these false-positives and it disabling internet access to my clients/PCs. This does render it useless at this point and then the fact I can't even add the file to the white list once I know for a fact it is a false-positive. Zyxel needs to do better on TESTING before pushing updates out to clients. At this point, I won't be renewing my firewall subs and i'll switch to something else if this continues. I picked Zyxel for a reason and right now it isn't looking too good.
Adjust timeout for XGS1250-12
Considering that it may take a long time to configure multiple units and systems, it is suggested to adjust the timeout settings of the XGS1250-12 Switch, as inquired by user @gordonre in the following thread:
If you agree that this feature is needed, please give it a vote or leave a comment.
Re: [2023 May Security Monthly Express] A simpler approach to security & WiFi 6E
I was skeptical reading the marketing speak about this - but I'm honestly VERY excited about this product. We've deployed Zyxel USG (and now FLEX/ATP) gateways to business clients for years and they love them (as do we). We don't manage them via Nebula because it limits so much in terms of configurability of a USG/FLEX/ATP that we sometimes need for our business clients. But they're so stable - we've been fine with VPN management and Secureporter/Email data delivery.
But as an MSP we've always wanted to be able to deploy a manageable gateway for residential/small business clients. This checks all the boxes. The KEY thing for us will be this. Can the gateway be individually managed by the user via the Nebula app on their own account, while it's tied into our MSP Nebula account for network monitoring and management (and residual monthly income). This would be the ultimate offering. We're going to order a couple regardless. But while we get you're marketing this directly to end users, don't lose sight that there is a significant market segment that many MSPs know is there, but is too much background effort to serve (we've tried all sorts of solutions. Ubiquiti AirCubes linked into UNMS and using DNSFilter for filtering? It sort of worked - for us. But customers got little visibility except the DNS filter reports, etc).
So anyway - looking forward to playing with this. But if you haven't factored in how MSPs could leverage this platform for an underserved client base - I hope you do. This could be a heck of an offering!
Client overview for entire Org
It would be nice to have a combined Client view from all sites in the Org.
PLA6457 software
- Possibility ti switch off the led's on the plug through the web-interface. It looks like a disco in the dark
- Possibility to download and check firmware updates through the webinterface
- Cornfirmation box for password changes to enter the PLA-6457
- Software (take a look at competitor DEVOLO) to monitor your PLA-network incl. possibilities to update firmware. In fact de DEVOLO also works for Zyxel PLA-6457 but that is not the idea I guess...
- Make a decent interface which is not amateur looking like it is now.
THe PLA works great but the webinterface and lack of software make it look as an unfinished product.
