The fix is already included in the latest firmware version 4.35.
You can find the bug fix on page 30 of the release note.
If you meet the issue because the password is expired, you have to follow the FAQ to recover the configuration and set a new password.Then upgrade to the new date firmware to avoid the password issue in the future.
If you don't have the issue right now because the password is not expired, upgrade to the latest firmware 4.35 to avoid the issue.

Should say I downloaded startup-config.conf before the update, is that the correct file to restore?0

If I don't have a backup, is there any way to get in and reset the password? This forced password change really messed me up. Is it worth it to make us do this and lock us out? My router was running fine. Now it is almost a brick.0

You can refer to this thread to backup configuration if you lost your password.
And send out your configuration by new firmware.
