  MetaRepo updated as you said and now it all looks more or less ok here!

  
  

  Glad I didn't reset as wouldn't have known what was wrong, I always prefer to fix if possible.

  
  

  Lessons..

  
  

  1) disable old packages before updating, especially if unofficial packages.

  2)  remember packages are stored on the hdd, not internal! so pulling the hdd is a quick easy check.

  turns out FFP actually has a warning about removing it before firmware updates. Oops! I should have done that then. Because i hadn't used for years, I forgot what i'd already done.
