That answer is incorrect. hot spare == replacing a disk with another already build in disk (no sata redetection required) hot swap == replacing a disk by inserting a new one. (requires sata redetection) But anyway, hot swap is working, at least on my NAS 540 which should be technically identical to the NAS542.
