Final word: Repartitioned the Seagate to a single exFAT and all is good.

HA! 3TB external USB mounts and reads fine with exFAT! Let's see how full I can load it up. That will of course takes hours, but at least I don't need to kludge a transfer via network share. Thanks for the help.

I just found a 3TB NTFS external USB drive - it failed to mount. I plan to retrieve some 3TB SATAs from the safe deposit box next week and check them. They failed to mount with the old connector and I expect they will with the new one as well, so I'm thinking the problem is in the NAS firmware (it's V5.21(AATB.9) which is…

I've been able to see files on single-partition disks smaller than 1TB. Just now was able to read and write to a 2TB single NTFS partition using my new SATA to USB connector. Don't have a 3TB to test at the moment. Hmm. Maybe the old connector was part of the problem. Seagate shipped the 5TB portable disk with a 200MB…

Hmmm. Running "ssh admin@(ipaddress)" from the Win terminal I get "connection refused" rather than a PW request. Probably need to know the proper syntax? Not exactly a sophisticate here.

I've had trouble with several 2-3 TB 3.5" SATA drives with 12V external power provided to the USB adapter. A USB-powered 5TB 2.5" portable drive is again recognized, but not read.

Today Win10 lost the network drive map on each of my PCs. Win reported the drive was not responding. Then after a while I was able to connect and map again with \\NAS540\. No need to disable firewall or enable file sharing. Did need network sharing on to see the mapped drive in This PC.

Had same issue with NAS540. Turned off firewall, turned on file sharing and network discovery, confirmed SMBv2. Quick Access \\NAS\ didn't work many times, then this morning it did. Turned on firewall, turned off sharing and network discovery. NAS map remains good. Go figure.
