It's not practical to run cable from the modem to a laptop and I want to turn off the wifi from the zyxel so it doesn't interfere with the other wifi in the building. The whole point of this thread is to access the zyxel management gui via the primary lan.

Hi, when you say "interface the VMG3925-B10 is connected to.", are you simply referring to the ethernet ports? An ethernet cable is connected between the VMG3925-B10 LAN1 to the Synology router WAN port

Thanks for your reply Peter. I have 60+devices connecting to the router, so makes more sense to leave that default and change the modem. I don't follow the 'create a new home net ' suggestion. Is there a tutorial somewhere or would you mind describing the steps?

Yes. the VMG3925-B10 can be pinged with a regular ethernet cable (I don't have a cross over), from any of the VMG3925-B10 LAN ports if the Pc connected directly to it has an IP address in the same range 192.168.1.x.
