I know the answer! It is NEBULA! ;)

It is strange that the AC pro is operating at 16dBm... Power regulations for Netherlands should be 200mW for 5G channels (according to cisco). Which is equal to 23dBm. I guess that explains why your clients are preferring the 2.4G channel on site-2.…

Hi @ConnectingIT Can provide screenshots of all your AP's 2.4G/5G transmit power? This should be in the bottom section of your radio setting page. I think we should make a comparison between the power of your AP's 2.4G and 5G radios. It might be that some of your AP's 5G is under-performing for some reason.

Thanks! Upgrading the firmware worked for me!

Is it possible your devices were connecting to the 2.4G radio? Check the event logs to verify which channels your laptop, phone and tablet were really connected to.
-
What about using sign-on with Facebook accounts? You should be able to gather the email accounts using the email summary report.

Which PVID are configured on the zyxel switch ports connecting to these two APs? The student VLAN or staff VALN? Connect a device under the student SSID and check the mac address table of your switch. That should give you an idea on which settings may be incorrect.
-
Are you connecting to the 2.4G or 5G radio? How many APs are in this school? Were you able to verify which AP your device is connected to? What about the signal strength between AP and station? Sometimes you could be standing directly under an AP only to find out you are connected under a different one.

@HealthByRo I agree that maintaining device description should be optional. We should also consider organizations where sharing any information between sites are prohibited.

@flottmedia Looks like I got this post mixed-up with another one :o https://businessforum.zyxel.com/discussion/2263/ap-name-changes-when-moved-between-sites But to answer your question, for customers interested in the Nebula solution, we provide (or lease) them our devices as well as Nebula sites so they can properly…

I am not fully onboard with this idea. There are cases where sites under the same organization are dedicated for different customers. If descriptions can be carried over between sites, then this could lead to some privacy issues. For the means to determine where the stocked device are physically located, maybe we can apply…

Adding more APs in your network should not cause your throughput to drop. There should be other factors to consider. Was this test done outside peak service hours? Was poor throughput consistent when connecting under all three APs? If your iperf/ftp server is on the wired network, do you observe the same throughput for…

I think @HansU main goal is to find a way to record the email address of people using the free WiFi. This is quite common marketing practice! @Nebula_Freda 's idea to use Facebook login is interesting. This prevents people accessing the wifi from using bogus email addresses.

Found this document that explains blocking/non-blocking switching: https://lhcb-comp.web.cern.ch/lhcb-comp/daq/postscript/switchperf_june99.pdf

There is an option in client steering called smart steering. That should improve general client roaming. But there are some devices that just refuse to connect with a closer AP no matter what settings you use.
