and then I did another test i disabled entware-ng i created a new share "testsharewithoutentwarengenabled" in the hope that may be it would be visible via FTP if created when entware-ng is disabled i checked with disabled entware-ng via FTP - the share was visible as soon as I enable entware-ng FTP does not show shares I…

Ok, another finding and it seems to be related to entware-ng. in the post above I told that newly created shares are not visible via FTP, but visible via SMB. so I disabled entware-ng and connected via WinSCP via FTP. voila! I can see all shares including new ones: and File Browser now displays everything as expected…

and one more crazy thing - somehow after configuration restore I got an error "access denied" when trying to look into syslog files. but clicking "Browse…" button works and I can see the files and directories. this is not an ask for help, just an observation.

FYI - I copy this from another thread as it is related (see ) i did a configuration restore to the point in time before I did a factory reset via the hidden button on the rear of NAS325v2. after that I was able to map a network share with a dedicated user as before on my Win XP laptop. plus after configuration recovery I…

FYI - just to close this thread i did a configuration restore to the point in time before I did a factory reset via the hidden button on the rear of NAS325v2. after that I was able to connect with a dedicated user as before. what is interesting, now after configuration recovery I can see shares where expected when logging…

Hi Mijzelf, in no way I was blaming SambaReplacement or complaining about anything. You and community here do enormous job supporting ZyXEL fans. Your support and knowledge are of greatest value. Please treat my questions and comments more of like a research or an investigation. Regards, -A

Hi Mijzelf, again - thank you million times for your help and advice. Just for research purposes I continue my investigation and I share my observations. What I did today - I tried to map NSA325v2 Volume1 with admin user from Win XP and it worked. One difference from previous attempts was that my other Win 11 laptop was…

actually more than that - somehow using File Browser under admin I cannot see files and directories where I would expect them… this is weird.

Hi Mijzelf, thank you for your tireless work here explaining stuff and things. One other thing which still a mystery to me: why I do not see anything in WinSCP when logged as admin under Volume1? Is it expected behavior? Or ist a symptom of something being screwed with Volume1? Why with admin FTP login I see neither other…

FYI I read that Win XP support only SMB 1.0 but I wonder how it worked for me before

a quick update: first of all I completed copying stuff from affected NAS to another as a backup - which is always good. then I start looking into the thread from the beginning and I tried to find out what could stop samba from working. it seems there were two files blocking start of SAMBA in /opt/var/run as I cannot login…

Hi Mijzelf, I am not sure how to proceed from here. And what worries me that my shares are not under Volume1 as it was before. Plus file system has been repaired and I am not sure if and what could cause it, and if anything else is broken. My plan now is to copy what I can to another NAS and drop Volume1 on this affected…

could it be some read write permission issue? first when I login via FTP with disabled entware-ng I cannot see any system folders, only the shares. secondly, when I enable entware-ng I can login with SCP and see system folders, as "/etc/samba" but when I try to see or edit smb.conf via WinSCP, I got permission error:…

and just a reminder - everything worked fine with entware-ng and FTP and SAMBA until unfortunate HARD restart via front power button. I searched a bit for similar issues and those two seems a bit similar: Case A) the symptoms seem to be similar to my one - or at least everything was broken due to unfortunate power loss…

now after enabling entware-ng without logging via FTP cat /proc/mounts rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0 /proc /proc proc rw,relatime 0 0 /sys /sys sysfs rw,relatime 0 0 none /proc/bus/usb usbfs rw,relatime 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts rw,relatime,mode=600 0 0 /dev/mtdblock8 /zyxel/mnt/nand yaffs2 ro,relatime 0 0 /dev/sda1…
