Indeed, you are not compelled to be using the DFS channels at all; actually given that the HD type of AP sports a way stronger 5GHz signal as compared to its non-high density counterpart you may not need to rely on DFS channels at all;

the best way is to test it empirically; you may need to set up your AP to use the doppler channels and check for a beacon miss event in the logs or check for netconf disconnect event or alternatively chech on the AP timeline; i personally use NCC to manage my AP

actually after rechecking the event logs on both APs separately I can see the event Netconf is unable to connect NCC. Relevant to DNS queries failed. occurred on both the repeater AP and the root AP at the same time .
