The manual I posted is the OBM version. For the version provided to WIND Italia could be found at below link which it's correct one. It seems WIND Italia had different password for admin account. https://www.infostrada.it/fileadmin/Materiale/guidemodem/Manuale_ZYXEL_VMG8823.pdf

Just tried it like Rory mentioned to enable the SMB1.0. Then it need to put the path into the folder column like: \\192.168.1.1\usb1_sda1 (My LAN port IP address is 192.168.1.1) Afterward, my windows 10 can map it and shown as below

Please try use the default password (admin) or you should be able to find the password on the back label at the device

Can you share both full file name of the firmware version? If you saw "illegal Image", you might use different firmware version. For example, the firmware I can see on ZyXEL website is 5.13(AAXA.7)C0. Maybe you had different one?

Hi. It looks like the router blocked these traffic, based on current information, there is no clear clue shown your router has been hacked. However, it would be highly recommend that you could check if there is any unusual settings in your router and also change the password for it.

Hi Seascapes, you would be able to update the firmware after you login the web gui and find the firmware upgrade page: Maintenance -> firmware upgrade.

Can you share the firmware version you are using?

Not sure what kind of the WAN interface you used. If you are using VDSL, you would need to change your WAN interface to VDSL. The screen shot you shared is configured as WWAN. Maybe this is the reason that the status shown not active.
