XGS1250-12 and SFP+ 10GbE Transceiver compatibility
Hello!
I was looking for a managed switch that has at least 4x 1G/2.5G/5G/10G RJ45 ports and 4x-6x 1G (or faster) ports.
I came across the XGS1250-12 switch and it is great in terms of cost and features. The only thing I see is that the 4th 10G port is SFP+ and the datasheet doesn't list the SFP10G-T transceiver.
When I found another model, XS1930-10, it has all that I need and even more but comes at a higher price. It is overkill for me, but it lists the SPF10G-T module in the datasheet.
On another resource, someone said that the QSFPTEK QT-SFP-10G-T module worked fine in XGS1250-12 and it is a RJ-45 10G transceiver.
So I was wondering if the SFP10G-T transceiver is still from Zyxel, and has support in "bigger" devices, can it potentially work in XGS1250-12? Maybe someone has already tried that?

Hi @McZion ,
I'd like to clarify some points regarding your inquiries. Due to the fact that the SFP10G-T can cause the XGS1250-12 to heat up significantly after extended use, we do not advise utilizing the XGS1250-12 with the SFP10G-T. This is the primary reason why the SFP10G-T is not included in the XGS1250-12's Datasheet. For optimal performance and safety, we recommend using the transceivers specified in the datasheet.
The SFP10G-T transceiver is compatible with speeds of 10G, 5G, 2.5G, and 1G. However, the XGS1250-12 Fiber port only supports speeds of 10G and 1G. Utilizing speeds of 5G or 2.5G on the 10G Fiber port will cause an inconsistency in speed between the switch chipset and the transceiver, leading to unexpected issues. Therefore, it is not recommended to use 5G or 2.5G speeds on the 10G Fiber port.

Perfect, thank you!
And one more last thing - even though the SFP+ port can work in 1G/10G modes only (according to the label, I assume it is more about the supported module speeds), is the SFP10G-T transceiver capable of negotiating with 2.5G/5G speeds? Or only 1G and 10G?

Thank you, Kay! This now makes total sense to me, I believe this comes from the disadvantage of a smaller case. So it would suit better in the XS1930-10 switch because it is larger.
But if proper cooling can be applied (e.g. a pretty cold server room) then it might work, but still would need to keep an eye on the temperature. But, overall, I think my problem would be that I am limited in supported devices for connection to the SFP+ port (only 1G and 10G would work fine), so it is better to connect fiber over the transceivers mentioned in the datasheet.

Well, according to Kay, it is supported, but not recommended.
Still, I have decided that if my main router will have only 1G/2.5G ports, I will just create a LAG with the XGS1250-12 switch (2x1G ports), but if I get a router with a 10G RJ45 LAN port, I will go with the XS1930-10 switch.
The only exception to this decision is if I will go with the XGS1250-12 switch, there is one option for a router with 10G SFP+ LAN port, so I will connect them via fiber.
