Self signed certificate expired now my IPSEC vpn users can no longer connect

From my understanding this is expected behaviour to improve security.
You now have to create a new certificate and select it for your VPN configuration and also deploy it to your VPN users.

Please try to regenerate certificate or import new valid certificate to firewall, and select new certificate to on VPN phase 1.
