Hello, i have 2 x Zyxel MG-105. Same behavious for both. Case temperature is very warm: 40-50 degrees celsius. Is it normal? They are placed on a table and not stacked with other devices.

Should I make some additional holes in the case and maybe add a fan?

How is the durability in long term with these temperatures?

How do these temperatures impact the devices reliability?

Thanks

    Hi @xgiovio

I'd like to ask for some additional details. Could you please specify the number of ports you are currently using on both of your MG-105 switches? Are all ports in full operation (ex: all ports being used at 2.5G)?

Furthermore, it would be helpful if you could provide information about the environmental temperature in which the switches are currently operating.

  • Hi Kay, env temperature in 25 degrees celsius, souther italy near naples. It's still summer. Both switches are on desks, so there is a normal airflow on them. 3 ports for each switch, some 2.5g, other 1gb. Temperature seems stable after some days but the feeling is about between 40 and 50 degrees on hand contact.

    Hi @xgiovio

To enhance its heat dissipation capabilities, the switch case is intentionally designed with a metal material. As a result, it is normal for the case to feel warmer during operation.

Based on our internal testing, the MG-105 switch is capable of operating within an environmental temperature range of 0°C to 40°C without any adverse effects on its durability or reliability.

While it's advisable to place the switch in a well-ventilated location to optimize its performance, we do not recommend drilling additional holes in the case.
