How to set up Ringv2 (Fast Ring Protection) on RGS-200?
Scenario
Ringv2 (Fast Failover Ring Protection) is a special type of link-layer protocol specially designed for constructing the ring Ethernet topology. It can shut down one link in a complete ring topology, preventing the data loop from forming the broadcast storm. If a link is broken, the protocol immediately resumes the link that was previously shut down. In this way, the nodes in the ring network can communicate with each other.
The Ringv2 and STP/RSTP are both used for topology control on the link layer. STP/RSTP is suitable for all kinds of complicated networks, which transmit the change of network topology hop by hop. The Ringv2 is used for ring topology and adopts the pervasion mechanism to transmit the change of network topology.
Therefore, the convergence of the Ringv2 in the ring network is better than STP/RSTP. In a sound network, the ring protection protocol can resume network communication within less than 20ms.
This topic will guide how to set up Ringv2 (Fast Ring Protection) on RGS-200.
Topology:
Configuration:
- Access the master of your RGS-200, navigate to Configuration > Ringv2 to enable Index 1, change the role to Ring(Master), and configure the Forward port and Block port.
- Access other RGS-200s, navigate to Configuration > Ringv2 to enable Index 1, change the role to Ring(Slave), and configure the Forward ports.
What could go wrong?
- Please do not connect the ring before finishing the setting, otherwise, loops will occur.
