USG FLEX H Series - GUI Enhancements

The latest firmware version 1.20 for the USG FLEX H Series introduces several user interface (UI) enhancements aimed at improving usability, functionality, and overall user experience. This article will guide you through these enhancements, explaining their benefits and how to use them effectively.

General User Interface Enhancements

Menu Tree Layout Changes

  • Old Layout: Previously, the menu tree included "System Statistics" and "Resources."
  • New Layout: In the new version, "System Statistics" has been renamed to "Traffic Statistics," and "Resources" has been removed.
  • Reason for Change: The "Resources" section has been removed because its functionalities are now integrated into the main dashboard, providing a more streamlined user experience.

Traffic Statistics

  • Application Usage: Now includes App Patrol.
  • Session Monitor: Moved under Traffic Statistics.

Viewing Large Data Sets

  • Frozen Headers: The top section of tables, such as in Logs and Reports, is now fixed. This allows you to scroll through data while keeping the headers visible for better navigation and context.
  • Table View Options: Two modes are available - "Fit View" and "Fit Content."
    • Fit View - Ensures that all columns are visible within the window size without horizontal scrolling. May truncate some content with ellipses (…).
    • Fit Content - Displays all content without truncation but may require horizontal scrolling to view all columns. Ideal for large resolutions or wide screens.

Rule Hit Counter

  • Hit Column: Added to security policies and policy routes to show how many times traffic has matched a specific rule.
  • Reset Counter: Currently, you need to disable and re-enable the policy to reset the counter.

Source Port in Event Logs

  • Source Port Column: Added to event logs for more detailed tracking. This column is not visible by default and must be manually enabled.

Event Log Filters

  • Filter Icon: Added to event logs, allowing users to filter logs based on various criteria such as source port or keywords.
  • Export Logs: Exported logs will follow the applied filters, ensuring that only relevant data is exported.

Language Options

  • Login Page: A language selection option is now available on the login page, catering to a broader user base.

Policy Cloning

  • Clone Policies: You can now clone existing policies to create new ones with similar settings, making it easier to replicate policies with minor adjustments.
  • Order Selection: When cloning, you can specify the order in which the new policy should appear.

Double-Click for Editing

  • Quick Edit: You can now double-click on a line in the security policies or policy routes to quickly access the edit page, streamlining the process of modifying rules.

Conclusion

The GUI enhancements in USG FLEX H Series firmware version 1.20 significantly improve user experience by streamlining navigation, enhancing visibility of important data, and simplifying policy management. These updates make the device more intuitive and efficient to use, ultimately helping administrators manage their networks more effectively.
