USG FLEX H Series - Custom Interface MAC Address

Overview

Certain Internet Service Providers (ISPs) require that devices connected to their network use a specific MAC address for authentication or other network policies. In such cases, it becomes necessary to manually override the default MAC address of your USG FLEX H Series firewall’s WAN interface to comply with the ISP's requirements.

Configuring a Custom MAC Address

Access the Web Interface:

  • Log in to the USG FLEX H Series web interface using your administrator credentials.

Navigate to Interface Settings:

  • Go to Network > Interface.

Select the WAN Interface:

  • Identify and select the WAN interface that you need to configure with a custom MAC address.

Modify MAC Address Settings:

  • In the WAN interface settings, locate the MAC Address field.
  • By default, this field uses the device's default MAC address.

Enter the Custom MAC Address:

  • Switch from the default setting to the custom option.
  • Enter the required MAC address provided by your ISP. For example, if your ISP requires 11:11:11:11:11:11, input this address in the field.

Save and Apply the Settings:

  • Ensure that you save and apply the changes to update the WAN interface with the new MAC address.

Benefits of Custom MAC Address Configuration

  • ISP Compliance:
    • Ensures that the device meets ISP requirements for network access.
  • Network Flexibility:
    • Provides the ability to integrate seamlessly with various network configurations and policies set by ISPs.
  • Simplified Troubleshooting:
    • Avoids potential issues related to ISP-specific MAC address checks, simplifying network troubleshooting and support.

Conclusion

The ability to override the default MAC address on the USG FLEX H Series firewall provides greater flexibility and compliance with ISP requirements. By configuring a custom MAC address, you can ensure seamless network integration and adherence to specific network policies set by your ISP.
