The repeater AP considers multiple factors to select its uplink automatically. It does not solely depend on signal strength (RSSI), though RSSI plays a significant role. Here are the main factors influencing the choice:
- RSSI Threshold: The repeater AP will select an uplink AP that meets a certain RSSI threshold to ensure a stable connection.
- Mesh Hops: To optimize performance, the AP considers the number of mesh hops needed. Fewer hops usually result in better performance.
- Channel Utilization: The AP prefers uplink connections that operate on less congested channels.
- Ping Packet Count: The AP sends ping packets to potential uplink APs to assess network latency and chooses the one offering lower latency.
- 5G Radio Preference: The system prioritizes 5G radio for mesh connections due to its higher bandwidth and lower latency compared to 2.4G radio.
