As a Managed Service Provider, we use virtual interfaces *very* frequently when we onboard new clients and have a need to switch their network to a new subnet.
Using a virtual interface with the IP/subnet of the 'old' network allows the 'old' and 'new' subnets to coexist seamlessly for a period of time while we get all servers/printers/etc moved to the new subnet.
Also fire/security/hvac control panels with static IPs will continue to function without having to call(and pay) the respective service company to come out and reprogram these devices with a new IP.
So Virtual Interfaces are a huge time(and stress) saver for us in these situations! And this is one (of a few…) reasons why my company continues to deploy the FLEX series instead of the new 'H'-series(unfortunately).
