Zyxel Networks is excited to introduce the XMG-2230Series, the newest addition to our Layer 3 access switch lineup, engineered to deliver multi-gigabit performance, flexible PoE, and advanced power management capabilities. Built on the new FiOS firmware trunk, the XMG-2230 is ideal for modern enterprise networks that demand higher speeds, cloud connectivity, and power efficiency.

Hardware Overview and Availability

The XMG-2230 Series includes two models:

  1. XMG-2230-28HP
  2. XMG-2230-52HP

These switches officially launched with firmware version 2.00 (FiOS trunk). Cloud management support via Nebula Control Center(NCC) is included from day one.

Port Specifications

XMG-2230-28HP

  • 24x Multi-Gigabit Ethernet ports (2.5GbE)
  • 4x 10GbE SFP+ uplink ports
  • All PoE ports support PoE++ (up to 90W)
  • No support for 1GbE speeds on copper ports

XMG-2230-52HP

  • 32x 1GbE PoE ports:
  • 16x Multi-Gigabit Ethernet ports (2.5GbE), all PoE++
  • 4x 10GbE SFP+ uplink ports

Key Highlights of the XMG-2230 Series

1. LED Eco Mode ("Dark Mode")

  • Allows users to turn off all LEDs except the Power/CIS LED.
  • Ideal for visually sensitive environments.
  • Configurable via web GUI (unlike older models with a physical button).

2. Built-in DHCP Server

  • First Zyxel L3 access switch to support a native DHCP server, not just a relay.
  • Configuration is available via the local web GUI or CLI.
  • Not currently supported in Nebula (NCC).

3. Dual Power Input (AC/DC)

  • Supports both AC and DC power inputs.
  • When both are connected:
    • AC is prioritized, and DC enters passive standby mode.
    • DC becomes active only if AC is disconnected.

PoE Power Budget by Input Type

Model

Input Type

Max PoE Power Budget

28HP

AC Only

700W

28HP

DC

Up to 1440W

52HP

AC Only

960W

52HP

DC

Up to 2400W

  • Power configuration is adjustable via the web GUI.
  • The system will display an error message if you attempt to set a PoE power value that exceeds the current power source limit.
  • While the GUI provides basic error handling, a clearer indication of which power input is active would help support teams diagnose configuration issues.

Summary

The XMG-2230 Series represents a leap forward for Zyxel’s access switches, combining:

  • High-speed multi-gig ports
  • Advanced PoE+ and PoE++ distribution
  • Built-in DHCP server
  • Flexible AC/DC power supply with dynamic PoE scaling
  • Day-1 cloud management via Nebula

Ideal for enterprises needing scalable, energy-efficient, and smartly managed switching solutions, the XMG-2230 is built to support the next generation of networking infrastructure.
