GS1900 Management VLAN Not Working

Hello. I'm setting up a GS1900-8HP (latest firmware from March 2025) for a project. It has a bunch of VLANs and normal port operation appears to be working with them. The problem is when I change the switch IP and Management VLAN. Doing so prevents me from accessing the web interface, but I can SSH into the device just fine. I've tried this in Edge, Firefox, and Chrome. All just sit and spin, sometimes they show a white page with a single > as the page output. Then I read in another thread to use Internet Explorer Mode. Tried it but no go. The relevant config is as follows.

P5 - Untagged 60, PVID 60
P7 - Tagged 60, PVID 1
IP - Static 192.168.60.173, Mgmt VLAN 60

If I connect a laptop to P5 and give it a 60.x IP (no VLAN set on the NIC), I can access the web interface just fine. If I connect it to P7 and add VLAN60 to the NIC (no change to the IP), I can no longer access the web interface. The page is white with > or the tab's icon just spins. Without changing anything, I can connect with SSH and run commands. I can also ping the switch by IP.

That last little bit to me means that the connection is fine, there is just some issue with the web interface. What am I missing? Thanks.

Edited for clarity.

I don't see how you can connect from laptop thats untag on P7 to get to Management by SSH...unless SSH has a way to listen on all VLAN and untag to reply? Which I think is a bad idea and a bug?

If you laptop NIC can set to use VLAN 60 or setup Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet for VLAN 60 then you can connect to the Management VLAN 60 on switch.

Seems my original post wasn't clear, so I updated it. I had added VLAN60 to the laptop NIC (when on P7) and was unable to access the switch's web interface. Ping and SSH worked just fine though. That is why I posted. I expected this to work but it does not and I don't know why.

It would seem the NIC is not set for VLAN60 but then you say you can ping and SSH so either its a bug that the GS1900 does not support web UI on tag traffic or its a limitation of that model?

I know my Zyxel switches support web UI tagged Management

    GS2200-8

    GS2210-24

    XGS1250-12

I'm leaning towards this being a bug or model limitation as well. VLAN60 is definitely set on the NIC.

Also, we have XGS2210-52HP switches that it works with. Hopefully Zyxel will see this and have some a solution.

Thank you for replying, Peter. Hope you enjoy the holiday!

I tried the exact same port, VLAN, and IP settings as you did on my GS1900-24v2 with last firmware version. Connecting my laptop(type-C NIC with tagging 60) to switch port 7 allowed me to access the web GUI without issues.

I think it's better to share your running configuration or even a tech support file, which contains all the tables, so that anyone or Zyxel agents can help you here.

    Hi @NEP

May I know the NIC you are using? I want to check this is because I tried two different USB3.0 to RJ45 gigabit NIC, but the results are different.

TPlink UE330: I can access GS1900 HTTP & HTTPS when I set VLAN ID.

    TPlink UE306: I can't access GS1900 HTTP & HTTPS when I set VLAN ID.

I also check with USG FLEX 200H and the results are the same. So I assume this issue could be related with the NIC.

It's an older Amazon Basics one. Believe it's USB3. Unfortunately, I went out of town and won't have access to it until next Friday. I'll let you know then what it is. I also have other adapters, so I can try them.

Can you confirm that changing the IP and Management VLAN will not affect regular traffic through the switch? The unit was needed so I put it into production without being on the management network :-(

No, the switch forwards packet based on the VLAN table and MAC table. The management interface will not involve the forwarding process.

As stated prior, the NIC is an Amazon Basics USB 3.0 to Gigabit (link).

In Win 11 Device Manager, it shows up as "ASIX USB to Gigabit Ethernet Family Adapter" (ASIX driver, 7/2/24, 3.22.3.0).

The "Hardware Ids" value is "USB\VID_0B95&PID_1790&REV_0100".

If I get a chance tomorrow, I'll try a different NIC and see if it works. Thanks.

    Hi @NEP

    Share an info with you:

The issue adapter TPlink UE306's info on my Win 11 Device Manager is also "ASIX USB to Gigabit Ethernet Family Adapter", the driver version is 6/7/2024, 3.22.2.0.
