Hi Folks

Weird question. I can only get 100mb on the Lan connection for my AP. The AP is fed from an up-to-date Aruba instant-on switch which powers everything just fine. I have rechecked the cabling and all is correct. The cable length is 5.5m and is Cat6a external grade.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Jon

    Hi @jonfear,

    Welcome to the Zyxel Community!

We tested the same NWA55AXE device locally in our environment.

When connected to a 1G switch port with 802.3at (PoE+), the AP links up at 1Gbps without issue.

Since the device works normally on our side, could you please verify the following on your Aruba switch:

    1. Check whether the switch port speed is set to Auto or 1G Full Duplex.
    2. Confirm the PoE mode is 802.3at (PoE+) and the AP is not operating under limited power mode.
    3. Have you tested the same Ethernet cable with another device to confirm it can negotiate 1Gbps successfully?
    4. If feasible, please run a cable diagnostic test on your Aruba switch

This will help us narrow down the issue and determine next troubleshooting steps.

@Zyxel_Tina - Many thanks for your input.

There is some weird stuff going on with this install!

I have checked the AP with a direct 5m cable connected to the same switch port and it appears to connect at 1G. I have retested the entire cable run and can find no fault, when connected to the switch, the tester even correctly identifies the POE connectivity and orientation. Given this is pro-grade cable and crimped connections, I am a little stumped… I think the best way forward to replace the entire cable run with an alternate cable and try again… Luckily I have lots of boxes of cable to choose from!

As a Senior engineer I am at a loss as to why this would be having this loss over such a short cable length, still if and when the rain stops, I will do a new cable run!

    Thank you

    Jon

    Hi @jonfear

I'm using 4 NWA50AX pro (which is NOT your AP) on a HP 1920-24G-PoE JG925A (which is NOT your switch) peaking 33w combined and idle around 22. Most distant AP is roughly 60mt of cabling from patch panel.

All 4 APs obtain 1gbe connection without issues. Our cabling has been verified for contiuity and it's wired as TIA586B on both ends.

    Hi,

The run is only 5.5m according to the Ideal meter and as with your wiring, is certified and tested as TIA586B. Given the Aruba instant on is capable of sinking far more power than is being used, there must be a cable issue somewhere, even though the evidence says no. I have even changed the patch cable to check it was not that at fault! When we get a clear spell I will run a new cable in using an alternate external grade cable I have under my bench… I love home labs! 😁

Which model of Aruba I-On are you using? I have experiences 1930 48 ports, firmware 3.3.2 and power supply, not PoE.

I disabled on the switch the energy saving options.
