Feature Request: Add per-client custom nicknames in standalone mode

Hello Zyxel team,

First, thank you for continuing to improve the NWA series. The standalone interface is already quite solid and practical, which is exactly why this missing piece stands out so much in everyday use.

I’d like to request a feature for the standalone web interface of Zyxel APs such as the NWA50BE PRO:

Please add support for custom client nicknames / aliases in the station list.

Today, in Monitor → Station Info → Station List, clients are primarily identified by IP and MAC address. That works technically, but in real-world use it makes the client list much harder to read than it needs to be.

There was already a related community post here:

In that thread, Zyxel replied that a feature request would be created for evaluation, but the discussion now appears stale, so I wanted to raise it again in a more explicit feature-request form. (community.zyxel.com)

Why this matters

This is a small feature on paper, but a big usability improvement in practice.

For anyone managing more than a handful of devices, the current client list requires mentally translating:

• IP address
• MAC address
• vendor guess
• memory of which device is which

That adds friction every time someone wants to:

• troubleshoot a weak signal
• identify a chatty/problem device
• check whether a specific client is connected
• understand who is using which SSID/radio band
• manage a home or small office with many similar devices

A nickname column would turn this from a technical lookup table into a genuinely readable management view.

Suggested implementation

A practical implementation could be:

• add a Nickname or Alias field for each client
• bind it to the client’s MAC address
• display it as a column in the Station List
• support search/filter by nickname
• optionally show detected hostname and/or vendor alongside the nickname

Example nicknames:

• Work Laptop
• Living Room TV
• Doorbell Camera
• Kitchen Tablet
• Printer

Why this is worth prioritizing

From a user perspective, this looks like a high-value / low-complexity enhancement:

• no major networking change required
• no protocol dependency
• mostly a UI + client metadata persistence feature
• immediately improves the daily management experience

In other words, this is exactly the kind of feature that makes a product feel more polished and thoughtfully designed.

Scope clarification

This request is specifically for standalone mode, not Nebula.

I understand Nebula can already offer richer client identification, but for users who deliberately choose standalone management, having a simple way to label clients locally would be extremely valuable.

Thank you again for the work you do on these products and for listening to community feedback. I think this would be a genuinely excellent improvement for the standalone AP experience, and I hope the development team will consider it for a future firmware release.
