How to Reduce Multicast Storm Logs on Zyxel Switches?
To minimize multicast storm logs in environments with high IGMP/multicast traffic, ensure your Zyxel network switches are configured optimally. Use the suggestions below:
- Increase the multicast storm threshold (pps) for affected ports. The default is 100 pps, but for IGMP-heavy environments, it is recommended to use values between 500 and 1000 pps.
- Leave storm control disabled if you do not want broadcast/multicast packets to be blocked or filtered. With storm control disabled, the threshold only controls alert notifications without affecting traffic flow.
- Apply storm control configurations on all ports where multicast traffic occurs. Ensure uplink ports have storm control settings if they handle significant traffic between switches.
As storm control directly impacts how the network processes storm packets, be cautious of its usage to avoid unwanted disruptions.
