If wireless clients experience intermittent internet access or disconnections, it can be due to various factors including authentication issues, poor signal, or network configuration. Review the following recommendations to improve wireless stability and performance.

1. Identify Potential Causes of Disconnection

Reviewing system logs can often provide clues for disconnections. Common reasons found in logs include:

  • STA timeout or Auth Timeout (reason 23): Indicates an authentication failure.
  • Reason 34: Suggests too many transmitted frames were not acknowledged, often due to poor RF or channel conditions.

2. Configure Recommended SSID Settings

Implement the following SSID settings to enhance client experience and roaming:

  • Band Select: Enable this feature to help steer compatible client devices from the 2.4 GHz band to the less congested 5 GHz band.
  • Assisted Roaming (802.11k/v) and Fast Roaming (802.11r): Enable these standards to assist clients in making better roaming decisions between access points, ensuring smoother transitions.

3. Adjust WLAN Rate Control and Channel Width

Optimizing radio settings can prevent packet drops and improve stability:

  • WLAN Rate Control: Adjust the rate control settings for optimal performance.

    • For the 2.4 GHz Band: Set to 6 Mbps.
