How can I assign an IP address to an access point?

By default, Zyxel Access Points are configured to obtain an IP address automatically via DHCP. However, you can assign a static IP address to your AP depending on how it is currently managed.

Here are the step-by-step instructions for each management environment:

Option 1: Managed via Nebula Cloud Mode (NCC)

If your AP is registered and managed in the cloud, you should configure its static IP directly within the Nebula portal:

1. Log in to the Nebula Control Center (nebula.zyxel.com).
2. Navigate to Devices > Access points (or Site-wide > Devices > Access points).
3. Click on the name of the specific Access Point you want to configure.
4. Scroll down to the LAN IP or IP configuration section.
5. Click Edit (or the pencil icon) on the IP settings.
6. Switch the setting from DHCP to Static IP.
7. Enter your desired IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS (we recommend using 8.8.8.8 as your primary DNS to ensure reliable cloud connectivity).
8. Click Update or Save. The configuration will sync to the AP within a few minutes.

Option 2: Standalone Mode (Local Web GUI)

If your AP is managed individually without Nebula:

1. Log in to your AP's Web GUI by typing its current IP address in a web browser. (Note: If the AP fails to get an IP from your DHCP server, its fallback default IP is 192.168.1.2).
2. Navigate to Configuration > Network > IP Setting.
3. Under the IP Address settings, select Static IP.
4. Input your designated IP Address, IP Subnet Mask, and Gateway.
5. Click Apply. (Warning: If you change the IP address subnet, your computer may lose connection to the GUI. You will need to type the new IP address into your browser to log back in).

Option 3: Using the Zyxel ONE Network (ZON) Utility (Local Tool)

If you cannot access the Web GUI or don't know the AP's current IP address, you can configure a static IP using Zyxel's free utility:

1. Download and install the ZON Utility on a computer connected to the same switch/network as the AP.
2. Run the utility and select your network adapter. Click Clear and Rescan.
3. Locate your AP in the list and check the box next to it.
4. Click the IP Configuration button at the top.
5. Enter the administrator password (default is 1234 if standalone, or your custom password).
6. Choose Static IP, enter your network settings, and click Save.
