How to setup fixed IP for AP?

By default, Zyxel Access Points (APs) are configured to automatically obtain an IP address via DHCP. However, you can configure a fixed (static) IP address for your AP depending on how it is managed.

Below are the step-by-step instructions for each management scenario.

Option 1: Managed via Nebula Cloud Mode (NCC)

If your AP is registered and managed in the cloud, you should configure its static IP directly within the Nebula portal:

1. Log in to the Nebula Control Center
2. Navigate to Site-wide > Devices > Access points.
3. Click on the name of the specific Access Point you want to configure.
4. Scroll down to the LAN IP section.
5. Click Edit (pencil icon).
6. Switch the IP Type from DHCP to Static IP.
7. Enter your desired IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS.
   • Tip: We highly recommend using 8.8.8.8 as your primary DNS server to ensure reliable connection to the Nebula cloud.
8. Click Update or Save.
9. The configuration will automatically sync to your AP within a few minutes.

Option 2: Standalone Mode (Local Web GUI)

If you manage your AP locally without Nebula:

1. Log in to your AP’s Web GUI by typing its current IP address into your browser.
2. Navigate to Configuration > Network > IP Setting.
3. Under IP Address, change the setting to Static IP.
4. Input your designated IP Address, IP Subnet Mask, and Gateway.
5. Click Apply.
   • Warning: If you change the IP address to a different subnet, your computer may lose connection to the GUI. You will need to change your computer's IP address to the matching subnet to log back in.

Option 3: Using the Zyxel ONE Network (ZON) Utility (Local PC Tool)

If you do not know the AP's current IP address, or if it doesn't have an active IP address, you can assign a static IP using Zyxel's free management tool:

1. Download and install the ZON Utility on a computer connected to the same switch/network as the AP.
2. Open the utility and select your network adapter.
3. Click Clear and Rescan.
4. Locate your AP in the list and check the box next to it.
5. Click the IP Configuration button at the top.
6. Enter the AP’s administrator password (the default password is 1234 if it has not been registered to Nebula yet).
7. Select Static IP, enter your configuration details, and click Apply.
