Temporary high CPU usage logs (reaching up to 100%) on XS1930 series switches are often associated with routine diagnostic activities rather than an actual hardware or performance issue. When diagnostic data is being gathered, the switch must process a significant amount of system information, causing a brief and expected spike in CPU.

To troubleshoot and verify whether these CPU spikes are normal, we recommend the following approaches:

  1. Verify Tech Support Collection:
    • Check if Tech Support Files were being collected manually or by administrators during the timestamps of the CPU events.
    • Understand that gathering extensive diagnostic data temporarily increases CPU load, which naturally returns to normal immediately after the process is completed.
  2. Upgrade Switch Firmware:
    • Check for the latest firmware release available for your specific switch model.
    • Upgrade the device to resolve known issues, such as port flapping, which could otherwise trigger unexpected CPU spikes.
  3. Monitor the Device Status:
    • Keep monitoring the switch event logs for at least one week after upgrading.
    • Verify if the high CPU logs stop recurring during periods when no tech support files are being collected.

Note: Temporary CPU spikes triggered by tech support collections are part of normal system behavior and do not impact active network traffic or site performance.

If you observe persistent high CPU logs that occur outside of diagnostic collection windows, or if your network experiences actual performance degradation, further investigation may be required.
