Hey everyone.

I have a customer that is suggesting that their network is briefly up and down multiple times during the day. On looking at the logs the only event that I can't explain is the following power event:

3 Jul 16 14:42:58 CR system: System voltage has recovered to normal state
4 Jul 16 14:42:58 CR system: 12V voltage has recovered to normal state
5 Jul 16 14:42:56 CR system: 12V voltage value 11.156 is out of its limit range
6 Jul 16 14:42:53 CR system: System voltage has recovered to normal state
7 Jul 16 14:42:53 CR system: 12V voltage has recovered to normal state
8 Jul 16 14:42:47 CR system: 12V voltage value 11.156 is out of its limit range
9 Jul 16 14:42:38 CR system: System voltage has recovered to normal state
10 Jul 16 14:42:38 CR system: 12V voltage has recovered to normal state
11 Jul 16 14:42:36 CR system: 12V voltage value 11.156 is out of its limit range
12 Jul 16 14:42:25 CR system: System voltage has recovered to normal state
13 Jul 16 14:42:25 CR system: 12V voltage has recovered to normal state
14 Jul 16 14:42:24 CR system: 12V voltage value 11.156 is out of its limit range
15 Jul 16 14:42:07 CR system: System voltage has recovered to normal state
16 Jul 16 14:42:07 CR system: 12V voltage has recovered to normal state
17 Jul 16 14:42:04 CR system: 12V voltage value 11.156 is out of its limit range
18 Jul 16 14:40:03 CR system: System voltage has recovered to normal state
19 Jul 16 14:40:03 CR system: 12V voltage has recovered to normal state
20 Jul 16 14:40:01 CR system: 12V voltage value 11.156 is out of its limit range

The switch is a GS2210-24 on firmware version V4.50

Could this be the issue and, regardless of the whether it is or not, what is the issue/solution.

TIA

    Hi @dodders668,

    Welcome to Zyxel Community!

According to logs point out that there is a voltage instability issue on this switch, so it causes switch gets low voltage on 12V (minimum is 11.968).

You may confirm with your customer that is there any construction or someone was using a device which consumes high voltage during the date.

He/she may also check other switch if they are having similar issue.

If the customer confirm there is no voltage instability issue on his/her side, he/she may consider to send this device to RMA process.

  • Thanks Adam.

So do you think this could cause brief blips in their connectivity?

@dodders668 think the power restrain like... putting a valve on the fuel flow of your engine.
When you're slamming down your gas pedal, someone "plays" closing and opening the valve, and this could lead to an erratic and uncertain power delivery from your vehicle.

For power and electronic devices works quite in the same way.Maybe is not the switch the culprit...

I had an issue with a customer with erratic behavior from a server. After testing UPS exit voltages, it was clear that the delivery was not enough (192-198 volts instead of 224-235).
First test was run removing the UPS, and the server starting being more reliable as performances. Then with a newer (and better) UPS, hiccups totally disappeared.
Also power cables could be an hassle, if they are old, ruined, chewed, too much twisted.

    Hi @dodders668 ,

Thanks for @mMontana bringing nice example here.

As we mentioned that voltage instability affects device performance, so please help your customer to clarify if he/she has this issue. Change a power cable may help as well.

You may also suggest the customer to have a UPS with voltage stabilizer if he/she does not have it.
