I cannot connect to my GS1900-8hp

Hello,

I got a used GS1900-8HP. The switch works in a plug and play mode just fine, however, I got this switch because I want to start playing around with VLANs.

I tried to connect to 192.168.1.1 as this is the IP the manual says is configured. However, I cannot connect to it! I also tried the 192.168.1.3 as this is IP that is used in the 1200-8HP but it doesn´t work too.

So, do I need to connect to this port only from a specific port on the switch, is there any other IP that I could use for it, or what? I did a factory reset from the button, but still I can´t connect to it.

Any ideas?

    Hi @Peter Tselios

make sure no dhcp server is connected (i.e. router etc.) to your switch, then try to factory reset again and check if 192.168.1.1 responds to ping. No specific port is needed at default.

Also you could download ZON utility from zyxel website to set a specific ip on the device

    Hope this can help

    Hi,

no dhcp was to isolate the device and verify if it responds on yhe default ip after a factory reset.

As far as i know GS1900-8HP is not nebula compliant.

    Yes, it's possible.

Configure a static ip on the switch (default vlan1)

With the second ip on the machine you can manage the device

Hi Fred and thank you for answering. Now I have more questions.

Why no DHCP? I can disconnect the switch from all the other devices, but if the switch gets an IP from the DHCP, can't I use that one in order to login?

Regarding the ZON utility. After a (very) quick search I saw that I could use Nebula to manage my switch. I suppose that the app and Nebula provide me with the same functionality, correct?

I will answer my own question :)
I found the IP that the switch got from my DHCP server. Now I am in and I configured it as I wanted.

Thank you for your hint and support :)

    Great.

One last question. Is is possible to use an ip, let's say 172.25.250.1 for the Switch, while the rest of the network is on 10.1.1.0/24 ? Obviously I will add a second IP on the machine that I will use to manage the switch.

    Without using VLANs.
