GS1100/16 does not auto-negotiate with 2.5Gbit ethernet adapter

Hello everyone,

I have a GS1100/16 and I've been using it in my home network with 100Mbit and 1Gbit devices without any problems. I recently bought a mini pc with two 2.5Gbit ethernet ports and they won't negotiate with the switch unless I select 10Mbit full duplex mode, which is terribly slow :)

I have taken the following steps to figure out the problem:

  • Tried Different CAT6/CAT5e cables,
  • Tried both 2.5Gbit ports on the PC,
  • Tried different ports on the switch,

None of them worked.

I also tested the 2.5Gbit Ethernet ports on the PC with the LAN ports on my modem (1Gbit), they work and auto-negotiate at 1Gbit.

I know this switch is probably 10 years old tech-wise, but I want to know if there were any limitations for connections above 1Gbit with this switch. I do not think the switch is defective because it works fine with 1Gbit devices.

I look forward to hearing what you think.

Thank you

    Hi @agokhandemir

Our local testing, involving a Windows 11 system with an I226-V (on-board driver) connected to the ES1100-16 switch, showed negotiation at 100M. Given this result, along with your experience, it appears there may be a compatibility issue between the ES1100-16 (a 100M switch) and certain 2.5G devices.

To ensure optimal performance and to fully utilize 2.5G speeds in your network, we recommend considering a dedicated 2.5G switch such as the MG100 series.
