The mesh link cross different generations
Options
Hi Zyxel team,
Currently I have one NWA90AX Pro, may I create the mesh link with your 802.11be portfolio, eg. NWA50BE Pro? Since their SoCs are from different vendors, MediaTek vs Qualcomm, are they compatible to each others while creating the mesh link.
Another similar question is it possible to create a stable mesh link between Zyxel WX3400-T0(CHT OEM model) and NWA90AX Pro?
Thank you.

Hi @nealxgs ,
Here is the information regarding the mesh compatibility between your different Zyxel access points:
- NWA90AX Pro to NWA50BE Pro Mesh (Compatible): Yes, you can create a wireless Smart Mesh link(Nebula mode)/WDS link(Standalone mode) between these two access points. Even though they use SoCs from different hardware vendors (MediaTek vs. Qualcomm) and belong to different wireless generations (Wi-Fi 6 vs. Wi-Fi 7), they are fully compatible within the Nebula ecosystem. As long as both APs are registered and managed under the same site in your Nebula Control Center (NCC) account, they will successfully establish a Smart Mesh/WDS connection.
- Backhaul Performance Note: Because the NWA90AX Pro is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 AP, the wireless mesh backhaul link will utilize the 5 GHz band. Consequently, advanced Wi-Fi 7 mesh features (such as 6 GHz backhaul or Multi-Link Operation / MLO) will not be active on the backhaul link between these two specific models.
- WX3400-T0 to NWA90AX Pro Mesh (Incompatible): No, it is not possible to establish a wireless mesh link between these two devices. The WX3400-T0 is a service provider CPE model that relies on MPro Mesh / EasyMesh technology, while the NWA90AX Pro is a business-class AP that utilizes Nebula Smart Mesh (or enterprise WDS in standalone mode).
- Protocol Differences: These two mesh technologies utilize completely different and non-interoperable communication protocols. As a result, they cannot form a wireless mesh relationship. If you wish to use them in the same environment, the WX3400-T0 must be connected back to the main network via an Ethernet cable rather than wirelessly.
Hope this helps.
