Scenario
Nowadays, the size of video and photo are larger and larger. This causes more time to back up your videos and photos to NAS or Data Server.
The most common solution is to setup link aggregation to improve network performance by increasing the available bandwidth between the switch and other network devices as well as to enhance the reliability of the connections between network devices.
Zyxel switch supports both static and dynamic link aggregation in standalone mode.
Here’s the difference between static and dynamic:
Topology
This example will instruct the administrator on how to configure link aggregation & LACP.
Configuration
1 Configure link aggregation:
1.1 Go to “Menu > Advanced Application > Link Aggregation > Link Aggregation Setting” to setup the link aggregation group. Select the ports which you want to group up and enable this group with the criteria (the outgoing traffic distribution type) you select.
Here is the information about the criteria:
Select src-mac to distribute traffic based on the packet’s source MAC address.
Select dst-mac to distribute traffic based on the packet’s destination MAC address.
Select src-dst-mac to distribute traffic based on a combination of the packet’s source and destination MAC addresses.
Select src-ip to distribute traffic based on the packet’s source IP address.
Select dst-ip to distribute traffic based on the packet’s destination IP address.
Select src-dst-ip to distribute traffic based on a combination of the packet’s source and destination IP addresses.
2 Configure LACP:
2.1 Configure link aggregation first.
2.2 Go to “Menu > Advanced Application > Link Aggregation > Link Aggregation Setting > LACP” to setup LACP. Please enable the group you want to enable LACP and enable the LACP function.
Verification
Link aggregation:
You may go to “Menu > Advanced Application > Link Aggregation” to check the link aggregation status. You will see “static” in status, this means you have enabled static link aggregation.
LACP:
You may go to “Menu > Advanced Application > Link Aggregation” to check the link aggregation status. You will see “LACP” in status, this means you have enabled dynamic link aggregation.
Note
1 Do not connect both links before link aggregation setup. Start with a single link and connect the second after setup.
2 Only group ports connecting to the same neighboring device. Grouping other ports not connecting to the same neighboring device causes connection issues.
