Why can't my router update?

I followed the links given in a different discussion hoping I can update the router. Nope, got stuck at the same place as where he was stuck since no one came back. So how do I update the router? Because right now, this router is utterly atrocious. Nothing works right.

Wasn't sure if anyone would actually reply to the discussion. But the thread above is what I'm mentioning towards. My router is the exact same as that. I have the exact same issue and as you can see, there is no solution given to the issue. So instead of asking how to update, I'm more curious as to why it can't be updated since it seems an update can't be done.
