Does USG FLEX 100 firewall needs a subscription for work?

Does USG FLEX 100 firewall needs a subscription for work? Or potentially can work without it? We only need to make VPNs

Welcome to the Zyxel community. Basically, the VPN services(such as site-to-site VPN, and remote access VPN) don't need an extra license and can use by default. USG Flex 100 has Content Filter, Anti-MAlware, IPS, App Patrol, etc. useful security services. If you got the brand new device and register the device, you will have trial license services of 30 days. So, we encourage you can use those security services during the trial license status, once the trial license is expired and you think those features are useful to you. You can purchase our license on the Marketplace to extend your license service. Besides, you could contact our local partner to purchase the device and for post-sale support. Thanks .

No, the subscription part is usually just for the extra features; e-mail filtering, malware & virus scan, Nebula Pro cloud management and so on. Regular use and configuration for standard network operation does not require any subscription. Just make a note of the device features available in the GUI and how to notice when the default/built-in subscription runs out ( ≈ 1 year).

Also worth noting, in case you have not planned it already: keep the firmware version as similar and updated as possible, to avoid future confusion between the configurations.

To purchase the individual license for your FLEX 100, you can untick the package,

then choose the individual license you need.
