USG40 (w/o wi-fi)

Connected my Linksys EA4500 router to USG40 and the Linksys wi-fi is not working.

So I re-connect my Linksys EA4500 directly to my ISP modem and it is working properly here, but I have no firewall protection.

Connected my VPN router to USG40 and the VPN wi-fi is working properly.

"wi-fi is not working" could be interpreted in different ways.

It is not easy to help you if you do not provide a bit more information.

Newbie here with no firewall experience and limited network experience

Got some advice elsewhere, and need some help as to where to start:

Have LAN_1 as 192.168.1.1 which is VPN router connected to USG40

Have WAN_1 as 192.168.1.10 on P2

So far this seems to be automatically configured bu USG40 and is working

Next step - not sure where to start or cannot get it to configure

Need to configure LAN_2 which is ISP ip 181.xxx.xxx.xx (not static)

Need to configure WAN_2 which is ip 10.xxx.xx.xxx to P3

Any suggestion

Take my comments with caution as I'm fumbling around with a new interface as well.

Are you plugging all your devices directly into the Zyxel or do you have a separate switch that provides more network ports?

If you are plugging the device into the Zyxel then I think you need to configure only the LAN ports -  which stands for local area network.

What are you plugging into the Zyxel?

The WAN (wide area network) ports are for external communication - so you might e.g. have two connections to the Internet - but you only need one.

And LAN ports may need to be set to the same IP range as LAN_1 - so 192.168.1.xxx

I am terrible confusing.

It looks very strange. 
LAN = Local Area Network. In most of the cases, private networks are configured on this interfaces.
WAN= Wide Arean Network. In most of the cases, public networks are configured on this interfaces.

As you described, LAN interfaces ip address are: 192.168.1.1 and 181.xxx.xxx.xxx
and WAN interfaces are: 192.168.1.10 and 10.xxx.xxx.xxx

Some route problems could occur if the LAN_1 and WAN_1, as they could share the same ip address range (It depends of the network mask)

It looks strange (but not impossible) to have LAN with public ip address 181.xxx.xxx.xxx
and WAN ip address with private ip address 192.168.1.10 and 10.xxx.xxx.xxx

Can you show us a diagram of your network?

Don't know if I have Wan and Lan reversed in my statement.

Originally I had a VPV router and a Linksys EA45 router plugged into the ISP modem. Everything works fine P1 and P2

With my limited knowledge, upon setting up UDSG40, I answered the question "Do you have one Lan or two) with ONE. I tried to go back to restart it to tell it that I have 2 Lan but no luck.

I plugged my VPN router into P2 and it is working fine.

I plugged my Linksys router EA4500 into P3 but it is not working.

Looks like I need to somehow configure P3 but a bit confused between the WAN and LAN ip's and also how to set it up.

VPN is 192.168.1.1 which creates 192.168.1.10

EA4500 router is 181.xxx.xxx.xx which creates 10.xxx.xx.xxx

If you'd like to connect Linksys Wi-Fi Router to USG40 as an additional access point, try to set Linksys Wi-Fi Router to "Bridge Mode".

When I connect to the internet and check my IP it returns starts with 181.

However my wi-fi and printer, etc starts with 10

Any help on how to set up USG40

Sorry don't know what info you need.

As a new USG40 user, I have no idea if my setup is correct.

Don't know anything about hardware firewall.

My router wi-fi works properly.

When I connect it to the USG40, it does not work.

Hi @Sam,

After you configure SSID settings on Linksys router, change the operation mode to "Bridge Mode".

Once the Linksys router is configured as "Bridge Mode", you can connect it directly to P2 of USG40 even if USG40 is running with the default configuration.

The wireless clients will get DHCP from USG40 directly.

Here is the topology for your reference.

Internet----(P1)USG40(P2)----- (Lan port)Linksys Wi-Fi Router(In Bridge Mode)

Use the default settings on USG40.

Since wireless clients get IP from USG40, make sure DHCP server is enabled on LAN.

On my router, change the operation mode to bridge mode. (On this router, it is called “Access Point Mode”. )

Since it is configured as bridge mode, WAN is unreachable. Connect USG40’s LAN to router’s LAN1 with ethernet cable.

Internet----(P1)USG40(P2)----- (LAN1)NBG Router(In Bridge Mode)

The wireless client connects to router’s SSID and gets the IP from USG40.
