This guide explains how to identify the hardware version (e.g., v1 vs v2) for Managed and Smart-Managed switches using their web interface. This method does not apply to Unmanaged switches (like the GS108B series), as they do not have a web configurator.

Background

With the launch of our Managed Switch product line, we introduced various models (like the GS1920 series) with similar specifications but differing hardware versions (v1, v2, etc.). This can sometimes cause confusion among users, leading them to mistake their switch for the initial version when it's actually the v2 version, or vice versa. Such confusion may result in improper configuration settings or firmware updates. Ensuring accurate identification of your switch model is crucial for seamless operation and maintenance.

Steps to verify (Using the Web Configurator):

To verify your switch version, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the web configurator (management interface) of your switch.
  2. Navigate to the Status or System Information page.
  3. Check the Firmware String (or Firmware Version) displayed for your switch.
  4. For example, consider the GS1920-48HP switch. The firmware string for the initial version might be VX.XX(AAOA.X), while for the GS1920-48HPv2, it could be VX.XX(ABMK.X).

By following these steps, you can accurately determine your switch version, ensuring that you configure and update it appropriately.
