WX5600 extender - slow speed & solid amber WPS

I have purchased the above wx5600 extender for use with an EX3301 router (router provided by Hyperoptic UK).

The extender connects with the router, and I can create a mesh with the MPro app. However:

1. The download speed is extremely slow, around 10mbps versus 500mbps direct from router (wireless)
2. The WPS light on the extender is solid amber

Perhaps #2 is causing #1?

I am trying to update the firmware on the wx5600-to but I keep getting an error message:

"iMAGE UPLOADING FAILED. THE SELECTED FILE IS AN ILLEGAL IMAGE UPLOAD"

I downloaded the firmware file directly from the Zyxel product page. I have opened the zip file and am trying to update using the .BIN file V570ACEB32C0.bin

I have tried updating via Safari and Chrome. My laptop is a MacBook Pro.

current firmware: V5.70(ACEB.2)b4

latest (but unable to update): V5.70(ACEB.3.2)C0

ANY FURTHER ADVICE?
