In the latest uOS update, resource monitoring has been significantly refined to improve the accuracy of CPU and memory usage reporting. The changes enhance transparency in CPU and memory reporting, giving a clearer picture of device performance.

1. Enhanced CPU Usage

Previously, CPU usage calculations were based on cores 1 and 2. This sometimes resulted in misleadingly high CPU usage readings, as only a portion of the device’s CPU resources was being monitored. In the updated firmware, all four CPU cores (including cores 3 and 4, used for background processes) are included in the CPU usage calculation.

2. Enhanced Memory Usage

Memory usage reporting has also been updated to include both system memory and fast-path memory. Previously, memory usage was calculated based only on system memory, without accounting for the memory allocated for high-speed packet processing (fast-path).

This updated approach results in a clearer breakdown between system memory and fast-path memory, giving a more accurate overall memory utilization metric.

3. Dashboard View for CPU and Memory Usage

On the System Dashboard, CPU and memory usage is now displayed with greater detail:

  • CPU Usage: Shows an averaged load across all CPU cores.
  • Memory Usage: Separates system and fast-path memory, showing both available and used memory for each.

These improvements make monitoring and managing Zyxel devices easier, enabling customers to troubleshoot more effectively and better understand device performance under different loads.
