extend my wifi coverage

Hello, I am a private user with little experience and modest skills.

I have a NWA50AX PRO and I want to use it to extend my wifi coverage.

Where I want to put it, I don't have a network cable yet to use it in AP mode. So, I thought that in the meantime, I would set it in repeater mode. But when I am on the page below, and I set the 2.4Ghz wifi in repeater mode, it is impossible to set the 5Ghz wifi as well because it becomes grayed out (and the same in the other direction if I start by setting the 5Ghz in repeater mode). I don't know how to solve this problem.

In the other hand, I read somewhere that AP mode could work wirelessly on this equipment, but as soon as I unplug the network cable, I lose internet. This could be a solution I think to stay in AP mode rather than repeater mode, but I don't know how to implement it without a network cable connected to the Zyxel.

nb: I set the same SSID as my box on the Zyxel and I am not on the Nebula interface but on the standalone interface.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi @JCG ,

To set up a Mesh network with Repeater mode:

    • You need a minimum of two Zyxel access points
    • One must be configured as the Root AP
    • Another will function as the Repeater AP

When you have two or more access points in your network, you can configure them as a Root AP and Repeater AP(s) using Mesh connection in standalone mode. Please refer to the FAQ below for setup instructions.

What is the procedure to construct the WDS between the standalone APs? — Zyxel Community

I set the 2.4Ghz wifi in repeater mode, it is impossible to set the 5Ghz wifi as well because it becomes grayed out

    Note that for Mesh connectivity:

    • You only need to choose one band (either 2.4GHz or 5GHz) for the Mesh connection between access points
    • Your access points can still broadcast WiFi on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands for client devices

This is normal operation - the band selected for Mesh is independent from the bands used for client connectivity.

    thanks for your answer :)

i don't have a big enough house to have two access points.

but i was thinking maybe of another solution: while waiting to be able to connect my NWA50AX in wired with a network cable, could my NWA50AX get the signal in wired by the current of the house with a Zyxel PLC adaptater connected to my internet box?

if yes, what would be the performance of this 'wired connection' via the electrical current cables compared to a connection by network cable? Would it be similar?

    thanks for your opinion.
