What is the proper setting for the port type: trunk or access, on a switch?

If the peer device is connected to another switch or access point, it is recommended to set the port type to trunk. However, if the peer device is an end device or VLAN-unaware such as like IP phone, set the port type to access and assign the appropriate PVID.
