NWA210AX - 5 GHz WIFI fast with 80 MHz than 160 MHz

Hello,

I use 2 x NWA 210AX and 1 x NWA220AX access points in my home.

As my 5 GHz environment is very clean, I have activated 160 MHz on the access points. Devices show a connection speed of 2400 MBit in Windows Signal overview.

When I test the speed to a local NAS, I was surprised that max. speed is about 75 MB/sec which is about 600 Mbit. The speed is the same on two different computers with Realtek and Intel WIFI controllers. Connected to a LAN cable speed is about 120 MB/sec which is the close to the speed of the switch of 1 GBit.

During further testing I have experienced that changing from 160 MHz to 80 MHz increase the throughput to 95 MB/sec, 760 Mbit. Windows shows a connection speed of 1200 MBit then. How is that possible?

Computer and access point are quite close to each other. As I use the local NAS regularly and need good speed, I would appreciate some further ideas.

Best regards

Stefan

    Hi @Stefan_M ,

More bandwidth doesn't always guarantee higher speeds, as it can lead to increased interference and co-channel overlapping, which may actually reduce performance.

Wi-Fi speeds typically reaching 50-70% of wired speeds are considered normal. For example, with a 1Gbps wired connection, Wi-Fi speeds of 500-700Mbps would be reasonable. For high-bandwidth applications like NAS, we recommend using wired connections.
