With uOS 1.31, Zyxel has enhanced bridge interface management to eliminate configuration conflicts and improve usability.

1. Why Were These Changes Made?

Previously, users could add any physical or VLAN interface to a bridge without restriction. However, this caused confusion because:

  • Some interface settings stopped working after being added to a bridge.
  • Users did not know which parameters were still in effect after bridging.

Solution: In uOS 1.31, users must clear conflicting settings before adding an interface to a bridge.

2. New Restrictions When Adding an Interface to a Bridge

Before adding an interface (Ethernet or VLAN) to a bridge, it must meet the following requirements:

The IP Address Must Be Unassigned (0.0.0.0)

  • No static IP, DHCP, or PPPoE configurations are allowed.

The Interface Cannot Be Referenced by Other Policies or Objects

  • Cannot be used in firewall rules, NAT rules, or DHCP server settings.
  • The only exception is "Zone Membership", which remains valid.

The Interface Cannot Already Be Part of Another Bridge

  • Each interface can only belong to one bridge at a time.

3. New GUI Layout for Bridge Interface Creation

  • Interface roles are now selected first (External, Internal, General).
  • Bridge interfaces are created within the selected role.
  • Click "Add Member" and select the available interfaces.
