In the April 2024 firmware release, Zyxel Networks introduced a major upgrade for its Smart Managed Switches by significantly expanding SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) support. This enhancement increases visibility and control for IT administrators using SNMP-based network monitoring tools.

What’s New?

Previously, SNMP support on Smart Managed Switches was very limited, supporting only two standard MIB (Management Information Base) objects via SNMP MIB:

  • ZYXEL-ES-COMMON.MIB
  • ZYXEL-ES-SML.MIB

With the April 2024 update, the supported SNMP scope has expanded to over 100 objects, allowing for much deeper monitoring and device management.

Enhanced MIB Support

The following three MIB groups are now officially supported and guaranteed on all Smart Managed Switch models:

  1. ZYXEL-HW-MONITOR-MIB.mib
  2. ZYXEL-POWER-ETHERNET-MIB.mib
  3. ZYXEL-TRANSCEIVER-MIB.mib

Applicable Switch Models

These enhancements apply to Zyxel’s Smart Managed Switch series, which includes popular models such as: XGS1935, XMG1915, XMG1930, XS1930, XGS1930, GS1915, GS1920, GS1350

Future releases will continue to expand SNMP capabilities across these models.

Long-Term Vision

While this release officially guarantees three SNMP MIB sets, Zyxel is committed to progressively supporting all widely used SNMP MIBs for Smart Managed Switches, and Smart Managed Switches shall support all Zyxel proprietary MIB.
