As part of Zyxel’s continuous updates to support next-generation wireless technology, ZLD firmware version 5.40 introduces important changes to the Access Point Controller (APC) interface - specifically relating to the operation modes for WiFi 7 (802.11be) Access Points.

What's Changed?

Removal of Mesh Mode Settings for WiFi 7 APs

In previous versions, administrators could configure individual APs in the AP List as either Root AP or Repeater AP. However, with the release of v5.40:

  • These options have been removed when editing WiFi 7 APs.
  • Location:
CONFIGURATION > Wireless > AP Management > Mgmt. AP List

This change aligns with the known limitation that ZyMesh is not supported on WiFi 7 AP models.

Updated Status Feedback in AP Group Monitoring

If an AP Group contains WiFi 7 models and the operation mode is set to Root or Repeater AP, the system will now:

  • Show the affected WiFi 7 APs with the status “Limited AP”.
  • Provide an info message: “Non Support ZyMesh on Radio” when more details are viewed.

Location for status view:
MONITOR > Wireless > AP Information > AP List

Summary

These interface updates ensure clearer configuration flows and prevent misconfigurations when deploying WiFi 7 access points.

To take full advantage of mesh capabilities with WiFi 7 APs, Zyxel recommends upgrading to the USG FLEX H series, which supports Smart Mesh tailored for the next generation of wireless infrastructure.
