With the release of Nebula version 19.10, we’ve made several improvements to the Site-Wide Topology feature. These updates focus on improving visibility, usability, and consistency so that network administrators can more quickly identify devices, understand connections, and troubleshoot issues.

Updated Device Icons

Previously, the topology view used generic icons for APs, switches, gateways, and routers. In 19.10, only stacking switches, external Zyxel devices, and other devices are shown with new, distinct icons. Instead of generic images, the actual product photo is displayed, which allows you to visually recognize exact models like the WBE660S, NAP-series APs, or GS1350 switches. What’s more, device photos are high resolution and zoomable. You can clearly see port numbers and even the Zyxel logo.

(1) New Client & OS Icons

In the Clients section, we’ve added iOS icon, macOS icon, and unknown OS icon (for devices where OS detection isn’t possible)

(2) POE Connection Indicators

Power-over-Ethernet connections are now shown with a yellow link between the switch and the powered device (PD).

Uplink Device Improvements for Renaming & Notes

You can now rename uplink devices and add notes such as including the device model. NCC identifies uplinks by MAC address, so names and notes persist even if the topology changes (e.g., the device moves to a downlink position).

New Refresh Button

Clicking Refresh on the topology view would update the display with the latest topology changes and expand all nodes automatically. This button would reset display options to defaults as well as reset zoom and pan to the original view.

Device Details Panel Updates

For Access Points, the Current Stations section has been moved to the bottom. To improve performance, you now need to click the play button to load the most up-to-date wireless client list.

What’s more, all device types now follow a unified layout based on the switch layout such as :

Model → CPU & Memory Usage → Configuration Status

This is to ensure consistent information placement for APs, switches, firewalls, and mobile routers.

Improved Trace Client Path

The Trace Client Path tool now highlights only the selected client and its entire path to the internet. Also, it hides unrelated devices, making it easier to identify possible failure points in complex networks. This enhancement is ideal for troubleshooting, as it clearly shows which AP, switch, and firewall are involved in that client’s traffic path.

In sum, these enhancements make the topology view in Nebula 19.10 far more intuitive and powerful. From realistic device images to cleaner layouts and better troubleshooting tools, network management becomes faster and more accurate.
