In the latest firmware update, Zyxel has introduced a enhancement to Device HA (High Availability) to address a situation when importing configurations with Device HA enabled to another device.

Background

Previously, when restoring a backup configuration from a customer site or another device that had Device HA enabled, the receiving firewall could unexpectedly enter a “Waiting for Deployment” state if:

  • The imported configuration enabled Device HA
  • The device’s Initiation Role was set to Secondary (which is the default)

Result:

All ports were go down — the only way to recover was by using a console cable to manually disable HA.

The New Solution

To prevent this, the firewall now behaves more intelligently:

Behavior After Firmware Update:

When you import and apply a configuration that contains Device HA settings:

  • The system automatically disables Device HA
  • All other configuration settings are retained
  • Device HA must be manually enabled again if needed

This ensures the firewall remains accessible and avoids being stranded in a deployment-waiting state.
