Enhanced Security with SNMPv3

Nebula 19.30 introduces SNMPv3 support for cloud-managed switches, specifically starting with the CX4800 model. Unlike SNMPv2, which uses community strings, SNMPv3 utilizes user credentials and supports encryption.

Technical Defaults on NCC

Because the NCC interface only requests a username and password, it is important to understand the backend defaults applied to the switch:

  • Security Level: Defaults to Privacy (Authentication and Encryption).
  • Protocols: Uses SHA for authentication and AES for encryption.
  • Authorization Group: Users are placed in the Admin group, allowing for Get and Set operations, including access to the SNMP user MIB library.
  • Limitations: NCC supports a maximum of five SNMPv3 users.

Note: Changes made to SNMPv3 settings on the local switch GUI will not synchronize back to Nebula.
