Why is ZON functionality limited to Layer 2 environments?
The ZON (Zyxel One Network) utility was primarily designed for use in Layer 2 or single-domain environments. It focuses on small-scale deployments where device discovery, provisioning, and maintenance take place within the same broadcast domain. This means that its functionality does not extend to Layer 3 configurations or across multiple subnets.
For larger-scale or more complex deployments, such as those involving Layer 3 routing, cross-subnet management, centralized monitoring, or multiple-site configurations, the Nebula platform is recommended. The Nebula Cloud Center (NCC) provides a centralized solution for deployment, configuration, management, monitoring, and troubleshooting in distributed environments.
Switching to Nebula ensures compatibility with complex networking demands and long-term scalability, making it a suitable platform for organizations with large or distributed networks.
