Why does the newly added SSID showing 'Unable to join the network' when the phone tries to connect?
Zyxel Employee
If only the newly created SSID shows “Unable to join the network,” while existing SSIDs on the same AP work normally, that strongly suggests the AP/radio itself is healthy.
Please check:
- Security/authentication mismatch
- Wrong WPA2/WPA3 mode or password.
- WPA3/PMF settings incompatible with the phone.
2. The new SSID configuration was not fully applied to the AP
Check whether the AP configuration status shows up-to date or any
configuration/provisioning failure around the time the SSID was added.
3. Client-side cached profile
- If the same SSID name was previously used with different security settings, the phone may have cached the old credentials/security parameters.
- On the phone, Forget This Network and reconnect.
- Testing with a second phone is a quick way to distinguish client-specific from SSID-wide behavior.
4. Check AP event log while the phone attempts to join.
If it fails during authentication/4-way handshake, investigate SSID
security/password/PMF. If association succeeds but DHCP fails, investigate
VLAN/DHCP/uplink configuration.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, you might consider contacting Zyxel support for further assistance.
To Help Us Narrow This Down...
To provide you with more precise configuration steps, could you please share a few details about your setup?
- Product Model: What model of Zyxel Access Point (or Router/Gateway) are you using (e.g., NWA50AX, NWA130BE)?
- Management Mode: Is the device managed via the Nebula Cloud Control (NCC) portal or in Standalone (Local Web GUI) mode?
- Security Settings: What security option did you select for the new SSID (e.g., WPA3, WPA2, or 802.1X)?
- Firmware Version: What firmware version is currently running on the AP?
