Resolving Yealink W70B Connection Issues on Multi-Gigabit Switches
Yealink W70B DECT phones may experience network connectivity loss when connected to multi-gigabit switches like the XMG1930-30HP, despite receiving Power over Ethernet (PoE). This guide explains the root cause and how to resolve the link negotiation mismatch.
Root Cause of Link Failures
Investigation of the event logs reveals that the Yealink W70B phone occasionally attempts to negotiate its Ethernet link speed down to 10 Mbps. This creates a compatibility conflict based on switch specifications:
XMG1930-30HP Speed Limits: This multi-gigabit switch supports a minimum link speed of 100 Mbps. It does not support 10 Mbps connections.
Legacy Switch Support: Older models like the GS1920 or XGS1930 support 10 Mbps connections, which is why the phone successfully connects on legacy hardware but fails on newer multi-gigabit models.
Corrective Configuration Steps
To prevent the Yealink W70B from negotiating down to an unsupported speed, apply the following configuration change directly on the phone:
Disable Low Power Mode: Turn off the low power mode setting on the W70B phone to prevent it from dropping its link speed to 10 Mbps.
Manual Speed Settings: Alternatively, configure both the Yealink phone and the corresponding switch port to a fixed speed of 100 Mbps to ensure stable negotiation.
Troubleshooting and Verification
Administrators can verify this behavior by monitoring the local switch event logs for link up/down flaps. If the phone is powered but shows no active link, temporarily placing an unmanaged gigabit switch between the XMG1930 and the Yealink phone can bypass the negotiation failure and restore connection for testing purposes.
